Our first Indie Bookstore Day Celebration was a resounding success!

Thanks to all of you who attended our Storytime at the Park event on April 30th. It was a joy to meet you in person and we hope you all had a blast because we sure did!

We started off the beautiful sunny morning with the lovely Ashley Smith. Every little one (and parent) stretched their tiny limbs doing yoga while enjoying a very special story time. After that, we spent a whole hour coloring/face painting and discussing with you and the press how our mission is going along and sharing our Kickstarter! It warmed our hearts to hear your words of encouragement and excitement. We were so happy to finally meet Michael Geffner who is in charge of the Queens NYC Lit fest taking place July 16-17 in LIC. We partnered up with him on the spot and are happy to say you will see us at the fest!

Audrey Dimola (who is FANTASTIC) wrapped up the event by reading one of our favorite books, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, and her own childhood favorite too. We hope you loved our goodie bags and we aim to continue having events such as this one throughout our Kickstarter campaign and beyond!

Where can you meet us next? We will be a part of Earth Citizens Club event on Mother’s day this Sunday at the Austin playground from 12PM-3:30PM. Click here for more details!

Finally, enjoy a quick slideshow of all the fun we had with you!

It's Official: Our Kickstarter is Live (and quite loved)

Today marks the very exciting first day of our Kickstarter campaign! Our hearts are full of joy and utter gratitude for all of you. We are thankful for our families and friends for being exceedingly supportive. We are thankful for our amazing community. We truly hope you enjoy being along this journey, the fun starts now. Our united voices will be heard and this effort could not have come this far without you.

We hope you enjoy our Kickstarter rewards. We have very special plans for our author ($65) reward. So many fantastic writers (some of Queens) have donated signed copies of their books. We will be rotating them weekly, so catch them while they last! Our first author is Zoraida Cordova (The Vicious Deep and On the Verge) offering two boxes of her trilogies!

As always, stay tuned/share our mission and Kickstarter/sit tight - it will be two very fun and exciting months.

Kickstarter, can you hear us? It's us, TQB.

A much-needed update is due, so without further ado!

  • First of all, thank you for all your perk suggestions for our upcoming Kickstarter campaign. We hear you loud and clear: totes, t-shirts, and mugs will be coming your way along with other exciting perks we can't wait to share with you! But if you have been holding on to any other innovative ideas, please email us (thequeensbookshop@gmail.com)! We would love even more suggestions and to include you all as much as possible.  As you can deduce by now, Kickstarter will be one of the platforms we will be using for crowdfunding.
  • We also want to share with you that we are moving steadily forward with our business plan, and have become proud ABA members! Our research and outreach continues to be enlightening!
  • As far as media buzz - we will be featured in Writer's Bone! So stay tuned for that, we will be sure to share it on all of our platforms.
  • Finally, thanks to all of you who signed up to our emailing list during our latest flyer day by Austin street. We hope to very soon branch out to other affected areas of B&N's abandonment; such as Bayside and Fresh Meadows.

P.S. If you are a local writer or know someone who enjoys writing, please reach out to us! We have exciting times ahead, and would like to work alongside you.

Thankful as always,

Vina, Nat, Holly

Buzz, buzz, and more buzz!

The past 3 days have been a whirlwind of support and media blitz!

First of all, thanks so much to all of you who showed up on Sunday in Forest Hills. You braved the rain and reinstated our belief that continued literacy is craved in our borough! We also hope you are enjoying and using our bookmarks; we promise more will come.

We not only had your support but also the media's:

  • NY1 filmed as we handed out flyers and interviewed us. Most of you may have caught the clip yesterday; as it played every hour.
  • WCBS 880 wrote about our efforts. Please check out their article here. Our interview was also on their radio station!
  • Shelf Awareness also wrote a lovely blurb.
  • Forest Hills Times has written our favorite article (yet!) about our efforts.

Also note, we have made a few changes to our website. You will now find a FAQ section, which you are welcome to browse in order to learn more about us and why we are embarking on this mission. If you would like to keep up to date on our press attention or read published articles about our cause, we now have a  Press section!

As always, you are welcome to contact us on all our social media platforms!

The Road Ahead!

"But sometimes you want to own a book, to claim it as yours alone rather than share it, to take it home and put it on your night table and keep it for as long as you wish.

And sometimes you want to browse for books in the physical world, opening the cover and touching the pages, rather than buying online through Amazon.

That’s harder and harder to do these days in Queens."

This sentiment is literally what we're trying to fight for. This feeling is something the three of us have personally felt our whole lives. Read this article if you haven't already. If you're like-minded, help support us! It's a long road ahead, but if people like Bob Brody still exist, it won't be a lonely road to travel.
